The Bodhisattva Ideal

The Bodhisattva Ideal is not a new idea; it is an ancient method of transformation that leads to enlightenment. Brought to this world by the Buddha over 2,500 years ago, it is as powerful today as it was then.

It offers a path of benevolent action that transforms the world through the eyes of compassion, and lays out an ethical plan of caring for all beings. It is nothing less than revolutionary. It is nothing less than the powerful face of our primordial wisdom nature emerging triumphant in a difficult world.

Over the years at KPC, a steady stream of teachings and empowerments has provided the foundation for taking the Bodhisattva Vow with Jetsunma. Newly aspiring bodhisattvas then train in catalyzing this awakening mind of compassion through spiritual practices such as contemplation, prayer, and meditation designed to bring benefit to all beings.KPC offers the opportunity to take the Bodhisattva Vow with Jetsunma, as well as special teachings and empowerments at both the Maryland and Arizona centers."Genuine compassion is based on the rationale that all human beings have an innate desire to be happy and overcome suffering, just like myself. And, just like myself, they have the natural right to fulfill this fundamental aspiration. On the basis of the recognition of this equality and commonality, you develop a sense of affinity with others. With this as a foundation, you can feel compassion regardless of whether you view the other person as a friend or an enemy. It is based on the other's fundamental rights rather than your own mental projection. Upon this basis, then, you will generate love and compassion. That's genuine compassion." -The 5th Dali Lama

"The Bodhisattva is like the mightiest of warriors; But his enemies are not common flesh and bone. His fight is with inner delusions, the afflictions of self-cherishing and ego-grasping, those most terrible of demons That catch living beings in the snare of confusion And cause them forever to wander in pain, frustration and sorrow. His mission is to harm ignorance and delusion, never living beings. These he looks upon with kindness, patience and empathy Cherishing them like a mother cherishes her only child. He is a real hero, calmly facing any hardship In order to bring happiness and liberation to the world." -The 13th Dali Lama

Ancient and modern adornments in Tibet

In the early Metal Age, with the popularization of metal smelting technology and the wide application of metal products, people's adornments were mainly metal and meteorite products, or "Togyia". Most of these Togyia were made of melting meteorite. The shapes included a tortoise and a tower. Especially in modern times people in pasturing areas often pick up these metal objects abandoned long ago. They think these natural meteorite products have functions of excluding illness and warding off evil, so "Togyia" have become the indicative adornments of the herders.

Woodcarving in China

China's craftwork technique was greatly brilliant in the Tang Dynasty and woodcarving craftwork was becoming perfect. Many of the well protected woodcarving Buddha statues that have been kept up to the present are the most outstanding works of China's ancient craftwork. They are concise in image, proficient and fluent in the artistry of wielding the knife and clear in lines and have become favorites in art markets of both home and abroad. Themes of woodcarving in the Ming and Qing dynasties were mostly about life customs, mythology and legend, like the woodcarving of ceremonies for superabundant wealth, great harvest of grains, prosperity brought by the dragon and the phoenix, safety and happiness, prolonging life as pines and cranes etc. and these were greatly popular that times.

China's woodcarving was originated in the Neolithic age, even in the Hemudu Culture in Yuyao, Zhejiang Province over 7000 years ago, woodcarving fish had appeared. The woodcarving craftwork became mature in the Qin and Han Dynasties when the technique of drawing and carving was exquisite and perfect. The appearance of colorful decoration woodcarving symbolized that the ancient woodcarving craftwork had reached a rather high level.

Chinese Cultural Great Wall

Chinese Cultural Great Wall

It could be one of the most magnificent cultural projects in human history, both in scale and quality of the compilation of Chinese Folk and Ethnic Culture and Arts Collections. In fact, this unique feature only resembles another magnificent project by Chinese people thousands of years ago - the Great Wall .

Backed mainly by the Chinese Ministry of Culture , more than 100,000 people have dedicated the prime of their lives for 25 years to this huge project. During the process, six of the ten chief editors have passed away, while about another 1,000 people have also died. Obviously, the incredible extensity and profound Chinese culture requires tremendous hard work just to sort it out. However, this project is finally coming to an end.

This huge work has promoted the fundamental buildup of Chinese art in general. During this project, many opera and dance forms, song styles, arias, proverbs, folktales and legends, which previously were rarely seen, made a comeback. Local artistic organizations were created or enhanced, and many local art talents were brought up in the process of building the huge cultural Great Wall.
